As a lover of art and technology, I’ve recently delved into the world of AI-generated artwork, using the Deep Dream Generator and Chat GPT as my tools to create pieces that blur the lines between human creativity and machine intelligence. Today’s prompt is about Trans Visibility Day. Last week I was having a celebratory drink with my friend Darcey for my bachelor party. It was just the two of us talking about art and life and I was telling her about this new website I was playing with called Deep Dream Generator. We were talking about how lucky we are to be a part of a community that is supportive and loving of all bodies and genders and how normal it is for us to be surrounded by queers. I mentioned I wanted to try making a Trans Visibility piece of art with Deep Dream Generator and Darcy suggested the words “Override the system” so I input that into Deep Dream Generator.

When I first saw this image, I was creeped out and disturbed. It really bothered me. It wasn’t what I had hoped for, and it just looked sad. I asked ChatGPT about it. I input: I don’t know how this image connects to my prompt, the picture looks like a desolate junkyard and mostly brown and tan tones. I get the feeling nobody lives there anymore and it’s trashed. Why did the deep team generator create this kind of image? What do you think it means?

I was thankful for this interpretation because it was accurate, especially the part about trans communities feeling abandoned and forgotten. I was thinking about how the system continues to fail trans people and if we don’t change, we will end up in some kind of disaster, which we are already kind of in. It’s a sad thing and a sad visual, so I think the AI generated art makes sense however, we can band together as a community and accomplish change.
In my next evolution of the image I added modifiers to give a sense of hope. I experimented with different lighting effects to create a sense of hope and community in the image. I added a warm and inviting light source. I wanted it to draw attention to a central gathering point or symbol. I also experimented with color symbolism. I used the colors of the trans flag (pink, blue, and white) to represent unity and pride in my prompt however I still got a similar visual. This time it was a little more uplifting but still not what I wanted.

None of these were hitting it for me. It’s too much like a boring video game level. I think this is because I chose the “Quantum” AI model which has a video game effect. I switched up my prompts and asked ChatGPT this: “Create deep dream generator prompts to create an inspiring image for transgender people to create hope and foster understanding.”
Chat GPT gave me awesome prompts for Deep Dream Generator and with each prompt it gave me a description. Below is the one I chose and I quite like the image it created.

Description: Use this prompt to create an image that portrays the strength and resilience of transgender individuals in the face of adversity. The mountains could represent the challenges and obstacles that transgender people may face, while the sunrise and thunderstorm could symbolize the hope and power that come from overcoming those challenges.
