Top AI/ML Conferences to attend in 2023

An extensive list of the top upcoming conferences in 2023 within the Artificial Intelligence field you should not miss

ā€¢

The Gregorian calendar, which is the calendar system used by most of the world today, was introduced byĀ Pope Gregory XIII in October 1582. It was designed to replace the Julian calendar, which had been used forĀ over 1,600 years. The new calendar was intended to correct a problem with the Julian calendar, which had a leap year every four years. Concretely, the problem was that the leap year was too long, and over time, this caused calendar dates to become out of sync with the astronomical year. One of the most significant changes made to the calendar was that the new year would start on January 1st. This was a break from tradition, as the Roman calendar had begun with the month of March, which was named after the Roman god Mars.

NowĀ in the first month of the year and following traditions, is theĀ perfect timeĀ to start organizing yourĀ goals for 2023. If youā€™re looking to start or continue a career in artificial intelligence (AI), one of the best ways to stay current and connect with other professionals in the field is by attending conferences and events. In this post, Iā€™ll be providing an extensive list of theĀ top AI conferencesĀ and events taking place inĀ 2023, to help you plan your schedule and make the most of this exciting time in the industry. So, keep reading, and start planning your conference journey today!

Letā€™sĀ startĀ at the veryĀ beginning

Before listing conferences taking place this year, it is of the utmost importance to understand the different types of conferences that exist and how they can be grouped into at least three categories (works not only for AI), which I will use to organize the list covered in this post:

  1. Academic conferences
  2. Technical conferences and events
  3. Business conferences and events

Academic conferences in AI typically focus on new research and developments in the field, with a strong emphasis on peer-reviewed papers and presentations. Technical conferences, on the other hand, tend to focus on the practical application of AI, with a focus on the latest technologies and trends in the field. Business conferences provide a platform for companies and organizations to showcase their products and services, network with other industry professionals, and learn about the latest business strategies and opportunities in the AI field. These three types of conferences all play an important role in advancing the field of AI, providing opportunities for researchers, practitioners, and industry leaders to come together and share knowledge and insights.

In the remainder of this post, I will list my personal selection of the conferences and events that I consider most relevant in each of these categories, with short descriptions for each one. In case you want to see just a raw table, without further you can jump šŸ¦˜ toĀ the endĀ of this post šŸ”š.

How to select the ones that are top to me?

Anyone can create their own ā€œevents to attend in 2023ā€ or filter an existing one inĀ 5 minutes, with the following 2 simple steps (I personally followed these steps to make this list).

To expand your map with as many events and conferences as you can:

  • Read as manyĀ ā€œTop AI conferences to attend listā€Ā as you can.
  • Read the conferenceā€™s selection of tech companies that you respect, especially tech giants like Meta, DeepMind or Google.
  • Follow influential people in the field and check their agendas. What events will they attend this year?
  • Look for upcoming events in your neighborhood, near your clients or technological hubs that you want to visit (e.g. Houston, Austin).
  • Double or nothing!! Look for conferences in tourist places you want to visit. Who does not want a short vacation in Hawaii, all expenses paid by your company.

2. Select those that have the greatest impact for you

Select those events that are most worth investing in, balancing between time dedication and attendance fees (many events offer virtual free passes). Ask yourself the following:

  • Is this event the right for me? Look for an attendantā€™s profile description like ā€œthis event is for CTOs, VPs, and decision-makersā€¦ā€
  • Is this the most influential event in the specific fields Iā€™m working on? NLP, CV, AI on Edge, ā€¦
  • It is this the most influential event in the business domain in which I work? Retail, Advertising, Social Media, Food & Agriculture, ā€¦
  • Who are the main speakers? Will any of the rising stars in the field be in attendance?

Extras

Some extra resources you should add to your events radar.

Pie & AI Events

Whether you are just kicking off your AI career or a deep learning rockstar, an ever-handy resource is DeepLearning.ai, an Andrew NG company (a machine learning and education pioneer). This company supports an event network present in more than 50+ countries, 700+ events, and 70K+ participants ranging from AI success stories to hands-on webinars on specific technologies such as TensorFlow, AWS or HugginFaces.

Stay tuned toĀ Pie & AI EventsĀ among other outstanding events from this organization.

Meta AI Events

Like other technology giants, Meta is responsible for yearly producing some of the most noticeable advances in the field and fortunately, they share some of these advances in academic articles, keynotes, and events where true rock stars can be heard in applied AI R&D.

Last year for example, in the context ofĀ Inside the Lab: Building for the Metaverse With AIĀ meta shared****Ā advances theyā€™ve made in AI technology that will help them build for the metaverse. Check the amazing keynote ā€œThe Path to Human-Level Intelligenceā€ where Lex Fridman and AI visionaries, Yann LeCun and Yoshua Bengio, discuss AI research and the path to human-level intelligence.

šŸ”— Check the list for 2023 inĀ https://about.fb.com/news/category/events/

Google AI Events

Google also has a very interesting list of technical events. Mainly online and free. Stay tuned because every year, there is something new there. Last year, in Machine Learning and AI fields, they hostedĀ DevFest22, theĀ Women in ML Symposium, andĀ Machine Learning Day.

Conclusions

The field of Artificial Intelligence is constantly evolving and expanding. Conferences and events, play a crucial role in keeping professionals informed and up-to-date with the latest developments and trends. Whether you are a researcher, a practitioner, or an industry leader, there are a variety of conferences and events to choose from, each with its own unique focus and benefits. From academic conferences that focus on new research and developments to technical conferences that highlight the latest technologies and trends, and business conferences that provide opportunities for networking and showcasing products, these events are an essential part of the AI community and should not be missed.

As we look forward to 2023, I encourage you to explore the many AI conferences and events that will take place throughout the year and take advantage of the valuable insights and opportunities they offer.
